Rewires

Choose your rewire with care. Not all rewires are the same. It is important to compare like with like when checking estimates and quotes.

Checked Electrics use only high quality parts and accessories such as MK or Crabtree sockets and switches and Hager or Crabtree consumer units. We use BASEC stamped cable from reputable manufactures such as Prysmian.

All Part P (notifiable) electrical installation work undertaken by Checked Electrics come with a free Six Year Warranty!

Non Part P (non-notifiable) electrical work over the value of £250 also comes with a free Six Year Warranty!

Is the extra cost worth it?

Yes it is.

Good quality parts and materials not only look better, they can last longer.  Quality sockets offer double-pole switching (live and neutral switching) for extra safety instead of single-pole switching (live only switching) found on some cheaper makes. This means that if someone inserts a plug with the live and neutral reversed, a single-pole switch would turn off the equipment but the equipment would still be connected to the live conductor.

Crabtree, for example, produce a special Anti-Microbial range of sockets to protect against microbial cross-contamination. Ideal for use in care/medical environments or maybe for the kids!

Non-BASEC stamped cable may not contain sufficient copper or may be slightly undersized. This could reduce its current rating and lead to the cable over-heating during normal use.

What Happens During a Rewire?

A rewire is a major undertaking. It is a noisy and dusty job. A rewire of a typical 2 or 3 bedroom will take 4 to 7 days. Larger homes could take 2 to 3 weeks. The more rooms, sockets and switches, the longer it takes.

For an 'invisible' installation, floorboards will have to be lifted and channels (chases) cut into walls in order to route cables.  This takes time and can be messy and noisy. The alternative is to surface route cable in conduit or trunking. Traditionally, this has not been popular due to the appearance of square trunking. However, there are exciting new products on the market such a D-Line which are much more visually appealing and ideal for flat screen and home entertainment installations.
