  • industrial premises

  • agricultural and horticultural premises

  • prefabricated buildings

  • caravans and caravan parks

  • construction sites

  • outdoor lighting

It has been the main standard to which electrical installations have been designed and constructed since the late 19th century.

BS7671 is published by the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE).

The main purpose of BS7671:2008 is to ensure the safety of persons and the prevention of damage to property caused by poor design, poor construction and inadequate inspection & testing of fixed electrical installations. To help achieve this, it recommends that all electrical installations are regularly inspected and tested using a Periodic Inspection Report. For domestic properties, the recommended maximum interval between inspections is 10 years.
