17th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671:2008 was published on 1st January 2008 as the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition. It came into full effect on 1st July 2008. There are significant changes in the 17th Edition and it will be more important than ever to enlist the services of a fully competent person to ensure that all work complies to the latest British Standard (BS7671:2008). The standard split-load consumer unit is unlikely to comply with the 17th Edition in most domestic installations. This is due to a requirement that all fixed wiring cables are sufficiently protected against impact or protected by a 30mA RCD. This will include lighting circuits. Also, all circuits supplying socket-outlets will have to be protected with a 30mA RCD. In order to minimise danger and inconvenience in the event of a fault, circuits will have to be arranged such that a single fault doesn't cause the loss of power to all circuits. Thus the above requirements for RCD protection will have to be arranged so that a single RCD trip does not cause loss of power to all circuits √
